Has anyone had insurance pay for reconstruction of breast with lumpectomy and repair other breast to make them look the same.
@A MyBCTeam Member it didn't take me long to heal at all. I was also doing physical therapy about three weeks after surgery just to loosen my body up because while I was healing eveything starting feeling tighter so physical therapy was a big help. I only stayed overnight I had my drains removed the next morning after surgery before I left the hospital. I went home in like a huge ace bandage wrapped around my breast that I had to change according to the doctor. Overall I was healing well like within two to three weeks after surgery. I had a hematoma that wouldnt go down so I had a minor outpatient surgery four days after the initial surgery in which I came home with two drains for like a week but they were easy to drain and the drainage stopped fairly quickly. Google "breast reconstruction after breast cancer surgery". Very specifically building new ones or reducing the healthy one to match must be covered. And, if you pay a percentage of a surgery for anything, the percentage must be the same. If you have a dollar amount copay for any other surgery, this must be the same. Don't let them snow you. Contact your state insurance board and force the issue.
I believe that as of 1998 insurance companies have to pay for the healthy breast to match the other, for symmetry.
I had a lumpectomy along with reduction and reconstruction. The tumor was in my left breast but my insurance paid for reduction on both breast and also paid for them both to be made in symmetry to each other and I'm assuming because of the diagnosis that's how I was able to get it paid for. I did my lumpectomy, reduction and reconstruction all at the same time but only to make it easier for me to do one surgery either way they still was going to pay for it.

I thought it was a federal law that your insurance company must pay if you had Bilateral then both if one breast they are required to pay for symmetry of the other breast ?
