I had my first chemo 19 days ago and started experiencing hair loss on day 14. I've had the hair dresser do a buzz cut, but am dealing with a sensitive scalp. How long before I lose the buzz cut? Scalp is super tender and I can only wear hats...no wig due to irritation/sensitivity. Ready to move on...

When I had my head shaved the first time in 2008, the hairdresser would only take it down to about 1/4" long due to little pimple-like sores on my scalp due to the chemo. She didn't want to risk opening one up and causing an infection. The pimples were tender, but that was it It was just long enough I could pull it out if I could pinch it. That was a very slow process so I had the brilliant idea to get out the lint roller and use it on my head. 16 sheets later, I had no hair left on my head except for behind my ears because I couldn't flatten then down enough to roll that part of my head. I found a skull cap made by Under Armor that I slept in sometime becausd my head stuck to my pillowcase. I tried getting a satin pillowcase, but I kept sliding off the darn thing. Lol.

My scalp was very tender until the hair was gone. I buzzed it as soon as it started to come out. It stayed sore until it was gone and then I could wear my wigs fine. I also wore sleep caps, they were wonderful. amazing how hair keeps you warm. Oh brother, what we learn! I did keep some fuzz the whole time though. One round the white would shed and then the next round the brown hair would shed. Weird!

@A MyBCTeam Member Hello. I had the same thing. SUPER tender and sensitive. About the same time too. 2 weeks began losing hair but 3 to 4 weeks its came out spotty and finally the tenderness/soreness will dissipate. I personally do not wear wigs. I have about 25 bandanas and find them more comfortable, easier, and more flattering. Hope you feel better soon. It will pass.

@A MyBCTeam Member WOW a lint roller! Great idea you thought of!

@A MyBCTeam Member I found a sleep cap helpful. Kept my pillow clean and my head protected at night. Here is a link to a few I purchased. They have 100% cotton or terry cloth. They are not expensive. http://www.headcovers.com/777/three-seam-cotton...
