Yes, I had mine for just a week before we used it. I got a prediction for emelin cream which, when put on the port site an hour prior, numbs it. Honestly, I was more nervous about the port than then the chemo! Once I realized how much better a port was than searching for a vein each time, it became my best friend.

I had a port put in on a Friday and then had chemo the following Tuesday. i was fine. I had the doctor write a prescription for a numbing cream that I used for each treatment. It really helped.

Your port will be fine for chemo. It is a blessing to have and doesn't hurt to have accessed. They'll spray it with a cold spray for you.
