Did Anyone Have Sentinel Nodes Checked While Having Lumpectomy For DCIS?

Have seen a lot of posts where people comment that their DCIS diagnosis changed due to positive lymph nodes. My BS said he doesn't do check of sentinel nodes for DCIS. So how do you know it is truly only stage 0?

I thought every lumpectomy included having the sentinel nodes checked, I guess because that's what my BS did. I was so relieved to find out that it wasn't in my lymph nodes. Do you know why your surgeon didn't do this?

Treatment plans also change because of the oncotype test.

@A MyBCTeam Member, he said you don't need to check lymph nodes with DCIS. The reason I'm confused is that I've read posts stating staging has changed from stage 0 (DCIS) to stage 2 based on finding lymph node involvement.

Initially I had a lumpectomy and my sentinel nodes were checked by injecting a radioisotope into the ducts of the breast. If your breast surgeon won't with the this procedure, a second opinion is in order. I was Stage 1 initially with the sentinel node biopsy I had 31 lymph nodes light up from the isotope, but pathology confirmed one node for cancer.
