Just wanted to know the cost of genetic testing. My mom died from uterine and breast cancer.I thougnt I would be at risk according to these factors.
I was told the cost was 4k. My insurance did NOT cover it, however my HR rep found that our wellness program thru work covered it at 100%. I am so glad I had it done. Unfortunately I tested brca2+ but that helped me determine my course of treatment, which may have saved my life.
I just saw MO today and am referred to genetic counselor for testing. Besides the current DCIS x 2, I am a uterine cancer survivor for the past 19 years. I was told 3500 and up for the testing, but if done on the referral of a genetic counselor insurance usually covers.
If your insurance doesn't cover it, it's expensive ($3000 to $4000), but more and more companies are funding it, especially with patients who have recurring cancer.
My mother, her maternal aunts and their daughters all had bilateral breast cancer so my mother got tested. Medicare paid. The tests didn't come back positive for the breast cancer genes but with the family history the doctors said that there is most likely a genetic component that they just don't know about yet. Then I was diagnosed with bilateral breast cancer.
Just went 2weeks ago. They said it can run 4400.00. The bigger problem that I faced is that my health insurance is with a company that has less than 15 employees. This means that under the laws as they are now, my insurance rates could go through the roof. The counselor advised me get on a list that ,if the law changes, they will call me in to finish. Ughhh!
