Since I didn't have reconstruction the gentle massaging helps prevent and loosen adhesions so my scar would not stick to my chest wall.
My surgeon believes in minimal intervention. I only had IV antibiotics during surgery, non afterwards, an uncovered incision, uncovered drain entries on each side, though with the scar revision he did hold it together with 20 stir strips, I think more as a reminder for me to not stretch too far to avoid coming undone.
The neosporin was my idea because it had some pain killer in it and thus made the massaging more bearable. Too bad I hadn't thought of it for after the BMX.
I really liked the fact that, being late July, I could shower 48 hours after surgery, with bare incisions and drain holes.
It's interesting how we all received different instructions.

I was told not to put anything on them.

I use bacitracin on my nipples as they have scabbed over pretty bad. :-(. Nothing anywhere else. I will be 2 weeks out tommorrow and steri strips are still on incision.
I do change my gauze and add tegaderm to drains as they are the most uncomfortable part.
I am hoping my PS will remove drains tommorrow. I felt the best today.i thi k being outdoors helped too. Sunshine cures so much

Yes, I had medicated ointment and gauze pads that had to be reapplied twice a day, and yes, ointment on before showering with drains, but I only had two drains to deal with. I was not told to massage either.

@A MyBCTeam Member, remind me (us) no reconstruction/
expander? Or yes? I was not told to massage the incisions. I think because they are cutting them again during the exchange.?
