The hardest part of any cancer diagnosis is the uncertainty which accompanies it. Trust your doctor and your instinct. Whatever decision regarding choice of surgery you make, be at peace with it. There are no guarantees in life. Trust you are making the best decision with the information in front of you right now. Your doctor is the best person to advise you at this stage. Ask for help connecting to resources in your treatment center for managing anxiety and doubt.
I chose lumpectomy with guidance from my amazing surgeon and I am very happy with my decision. I can't control the future, but I am confident I made the best possible decision at the moment I needed to.

@A MyBCTeam Member the two women I have met initially had lumpectomy, but few years later have a cancer recurrence and then decide on bilateral mastectomy.
I have changed some things in my life such as what I eat, etc. Good part about mastectomy no more mammograms.
@A MyBCTeam Member you probably had pre-cancerous tissue in your left breast.
I had a lumpectomy on my right breast 12/2007 and started tamoxifen 2/2008. October 2013 I was diagnosed with breast cancer again on the left side this time a more aggressive form and had to have a mastectomy. I have had chemo and currently going through radiation. My onco is saying that she will put me back on tamoxifen after radiation but I dont know if thats a good idea after being on it for over 5yrs and getting breast cancer again. Lots of decisions to make.
