For those of you who have completed the treatments, do you get CT or PET scan as a part of your routine surveilance?
Also, no scans for me. I see my onco every 3 months & she does physical exam. She will only do scans if I have an issue. She told me studies show scans & labs are not any more effective at finding a recurrence than physicals & patient's self exams. I don't find it very comforting!
I have not had any scans except bone scans. It's been almost 5 years since I had MRI. My MO checks blood. My bone aches have been bad because of AI meds and Tamoxifen. I suspected I had bone mets. My MO disagreed but sent me to a bone scan anyway. I think unless I develop some new symptoms, he won't send me to MRI or PET. I feel fine with it.
No, just physical exams, detailed history and bloodwork. CT scans are high radiation procedures that need to be carefully considered. Yes, they are quick, easy, and cheaper than MRIs but I would refuse routine CTs.
Yes, I had a PET scan and it was a relief hearing the words, "you are cancer free."
My onco said it's been over 1 1/2 year since my last ct scan and would do another one if I wish. However, I'm concerned with radiation which CAN cause cancer. However, it would be nice to know that it's kosher in my body too so I'm torn.
