I had the back flap surgery after radiation. Things don't look perfect but lot better. The skin is nicer and that surgery was so easy compared to the mastectomy. I went back to work 2 and1/2 weeks later!

Thanks for the response HolliB. Sound like you are going through lots. I hope everything turns out well for you. I have been busy getting a mastectomy bathing suit that I like, a couple of tank tops with the built in mastectomy pocket and bra along with a couple of bras. As much as I want to have the surgery, I am working on getting as comfortable as possible being flat on one side. I just notice everyone with their low cut tops. Oh well. Take care

@A MyBCTeam Member how are you doing? I chose the implant also after having had radiation 22 years prior to this diagnosis. Now a year later the implant is incapsulated and I am being told I will have to have the lat dorrsi flap procedure.

Had radiation 15 years ago, so last year's diagnosis left me with a choice re: flap or implant. Chose the implant, although skin did not stretch well with expanders. Needless to say, it's far from perfect, but I am dealing with it.

My plastic surgeon started reconstruction during mastectomy before I knew I needed radiation. We waited almost 6 mths then had DIEP flap surgery but just recently had to have 1/2 of it removed as tissue all died due to radiation :(
