they have always used the lidocaine spray just a few minutes prior to the insertion of the needle. it feel cold then numb, but have never had a problem with it. and yes they have had to reposition and stabilize the port with needle insertion, not abnormal.

I had to have mine replaced and put in the other side. They performed a flow study and found it had moved.

My port had tilted once and the nurse just adjusted it.Sprayed it with the numbing spray.
