I read on a recipe book for cancer that I should avoid raw fruits, vegetables and shellfish? Is this true? Do is there a special way of cleaning fruits and vegetables? I have been vegetarian since 2008 and swtiched to vegan after diagnosis. I realize I'll need to make changes again. Chemo starts in 3 days. Thank you in advance!!!
Hi @A MyBCTeam Member. I drink a lot of green juice, water, take colloidal minerals, hot dry sauna with dry brush. warm water with lemon. etc.. I am writing a quick handbook of tips to get through chemo and detox after. should be finished in a day or two. If you want a copy let me know and i will add you to the list.
Are you doing chemo every 3 weeks? if so, I would say try to avoid Raw produce, shellfish, high doses vitamin C, etc... but for the 1st week. the thinking is you need to let the chemo do its work. but only for the first week. then you need to get it out of your system as much and as quickly as possible before your next round. week 2 and 3 you should try to rebuild your immune system and detox so it does not accumulate in your system. That is why people can get more sick each round - it accumulates if not detoxed! this is my opinion on the 3 week intervals of chemo.
I was told to avoid undercooked meats, eggs, or seafood. (i.e. Sushi etc.) a lot of literature said avoid raw veggies. Then I was told to wash all fresh fruits and veggies real well. They said canned fruits were safer.
I would highly recommend you ask if there is a registered dieticion that you have access to as part of your treatment team. There is a LOT of bad information out there. I met with mine several times and she gave me great information. She did not want me radically changing anything as I already ate pretty good. Like you I am a vegetarian and often eat Vegan. You need to find the balance with making sure you are still eating enough and nutritiously. Good luck :)
@A MyBCTeam Member --> YES, I would love a copy! Do you make your own juice? I had just purchased a juicer before I was diagnosed and have not used it. Is it safe to juice?
Thanks a ton ;-)
