I had 2 sentinel node biopsies-I will be flying to the Dominican Republic mid January-should I wear a pressure sleeve?
Update: my Onc. Told me, I would not need comp.sleeve! She said to wear my comp.sox & take a baby aspirin, while I am flying! So, that's what I'm going to do! Each of us, has to do what is comfortable for themselves! Thank you for your inputs! xoxo
Yes. I had a friend who had 2 nodes removed as part of her SNB and ended up with a very mild case of lymphedema after flying to new jersey. She had to wear a sleeve every day for a month to get the swelling to normalize and she is OK now. But she always wears a sleeve when flying now.
If you have one use it better safe than sorry
I say go ahead and wear it. I recently took a class on lymphedema and they told us to wear the sleeve any time you fly. It sure can't hurt anything and could prevent problems further down the line. If nothing else, at least take it with you in case you need it while on your trip. Hope that helps.
I was told that even having a couple of nodes removed can put you at risk. I had only 3 removed and still wore a sleeve/gauntlet when I flew (on an hour flight). I am so happy I did. My arm hurt that same day so I put the sleeve back on and I felt better. No swelling *knocks on wood*. It is better to be safe than sorry!
