Do You Go For Labs Before Seeing Your Oncologist?

A MyBCTeam Member asked a question 💭

I see my oncologist next week. I requested to have my labs this week, so she would have results in time for my appointment. She wanted to wait and order labs after I see her. I hate the waiting game. I am also requesting a CA125 test since I have a BRCA2 mutation for a baseline number. Maybe this is just because, its my first three month appointment. Thoughts??

i have lab work prior to my oncologist's meeting. I see him immediately after labs on same day. He has my results already by the time we sit for our meeting. This sequence is essential for he is evaluating my physical state, my bloodwork, fielding my questions, and this is a final check mark for him to confirm that we are proceeding to Thursday's next chemo treatment 48 hours from now.
Tuesday labwork and meeting.
Thursday chemo treatment.
EVery 3 weeks. Same ritual.

I just asked my onco the same thing I see him on Tuesday and he said no-he wants to wait. They just do not get it. Waiting creates additional stress that we do not need.

I am in the same boat as @A MyBCTeam Member. I am told to be there like 15 minutes or so prior to my appointment for bloodwork. By the time I get to my oncologist, she has the results.

Chemo starts tomorrow. Always will be on a Thursday. I get my bloodwork done always now on the Tuesday at noon then 1 hr later always meet with oncologist. Who by then has the blood work and we will have a check in together. So we can proceed with confidence toward the Thursday chemo regular appt. I ha asked if it coul not just be one long day...same day....but they said they prefer this due diligence. for whatever reason...they might decided I needed a break...and to go home and rest. And then they would not be in a position to cancel the chemo session and the drugs would have been prepared and wasted. Makes sense. I find them brilliantly organized and efficient. i give them top marks in this regard.
