I have a question to all who have done implants and want to know if Alloderm was used on you. if so did you have an issue with red breast syndrome? did you get a nasty looking boil or infection and had to have 1 or both implants removed. Did you end up with a hole in your chest?
I have them and other than a round 3 of reconstruction to reset right implant and double stitch the Alloderm to my muscles. Which caused good one to be 'sitting high' for a few months. All looks great and even now. and I've had no adverse reactions. Well excepts my shock at the cost! I'm very blessed to have good insurance.
MonarchPD, did you have the three recons on the same side that your cancer was on?
My plastic surgeon said that about fifty percent of breast cancer patients have a failure on the same side that their cancer was on. For me, I had cancer in my right breast and my skin was so think hat it wouldn't hold the sutures thus I had holes that endangered my implants (from accidental loss ;) and infection). The Alloderm was visible but in perfect condition AND doing its job (bleeding when it was cut among other things). They actually removed some of the Alloderm when they did the latissimus flap procedure as the muscle replaced it.
Same as @A MyBCTeam Member! No problems. Are you allergic to them?
My plastic surgeon wouldn't use alloderm and I don't quite remember why, but I vaguely recall him saying something about it causing issues and only using it if he felt he needed it.
I have alloderm...no issues. Although I was very surprised at the cost!!!!! What is red breast syndrome?
