My first few months with expanders were uncomfortable under my arm. It felt swollen and like it was rubbing and raw. I walked around with my hands on my hips for months it seemed. I kept asking my plastic surgeon about this and he said it will go down. It did finally reduce, but it is still not what it was and probably never will be. Now six months later, it's much better but I'm ready to have my reconstruction. I hate the expanders you never feel they are a part of you. I had only 5 expansions because I want to be smaller than I was. I'm glad because any bigger would feel tighter than it does now. It will be over soon. Can't wait.

Give it some time and it will start to feel better. But keep on your doctor if not. Best of luck to you

My upper left arm was swollen and I had a little discomfort from the expanders. My plastic surgeon gave me muscle relaxers to take at night to sleep. He said he gave them to most of his patients. They helped but I used them after the fills. Wishing you all the luck on your first fills. I am not a back sleeper so it took time for me adjust. I now can sleep on my left side . :) I had my double mastectomy on 9/20/2012.. :) hugs to you!

I've had my expanders for 10 months now. You get used to them being there, pain isn't so bad. They are hard so you constantly notice them. It will get better soon!!

I did, it turned out to be trucal lymphedema (in my chest). I assumed it was from the expanders so it went undiagnosed for months. Ask to see a specialist. The sooner the better, less long term damage.

I got my expanders following my surgery on Halloween. My chest, underarms, up to my neck felt swollen and uncomfortable. I had a difficult time sleeping. I carried pillows with me under each arm, tried ice packs off and on to help. Time made it better, way better... Not to mention the pain pills and muscle relaxers. Everyone is different but I hope you find some relief soon.
