I have a surgery scheduled in 3 weeks to remove both ovaries and tubes since I have estrogen positive cancer with a recent recurrence. If so, what are the successes and the failures, if any?

I have the brca 1 gene and still opted yo have ovaries out. Had them taken same day of reconstruction. I feel it gives me less to worry about.

I had my ovaries and tubes removed... I am BRCA1 positive as well. But we removed them more to slow down my cancer as it is hormon responsive. It was a simple procedure, laproscopicaly small incisions on the lower left/right side of my tummy. Scars are smaller then a pencil head eraser. One side got infected because I left the tape strips on too long. But it was easy same day surgery.....

@A MyBCTeam Member - I did have my ovaries removed to prevent the production of hormones; since my cancer is hormone positive. My surgery was successful, I won't say that the few days following the surgery were not painful...because my surgery was done through an existing scar on my stomach and not through my cervix. I am told that it much easier that way...but I don't have experience with that. I did go into "surgical" menopause, and it was not too bad, and my doctors were very helpful and understanding. Just make sure to let them know any symptoms that you are experiencing so they can help you. Hugs, Lisa

Thanks Jill...This site has been very helpful. I'm having a tough time deciding....so I will have to pray about it & leave it in God's hands.
