Tamoxifen does not stop the estrogen production. This is a myth. Tamoxifen is designed to stop the receptors from receiving estrogen. Actually Tamoxifen suppressed estrogen receptors to the breast but theres not affect to the ovaries that continue to produce estrogen. I had a total hysterectomy and bilateral saling-oophectomy for the peace of mind.

after a year of tamoxifen, I underwent a hysterectomy because of early stages of uterine cancer. I was switched to Letrozole (Femara). My painful spasms have lessened on the newer med.

I was on Tamoxifen and had to have a hysterectomy. My PAP showed hyperplasia (MILD), and at first they said it was tamoxifen effect on the cells, but a follow up PAP a year later showed progressing hyperplasia(MODERATE) so they recommended a hysterectomy.

I completed the 5 years on tamoxifen. But the first questionable PAP was during the last year of treatment. They tried me off the tamoxifen to see if it would improve the PAP, but my estrogen results were off the chart and they decided to put me back on the tamoxifen. Rule back in 2001 when I was first dx with breast cancer, I had a mastectomy with TRAM (where the take the fat from the abdomen and build a breast with that fat - as long as you have enough fat). But the rule at the hospital in MI I received my treatment a hysterectomy wasn’t a question, you have it. One year later my physician explained to my then husband I probably would not ever be able to carry and give birth because of the condition of my uterus, h said it was like a ‘BIG BLOB’, that’s why my periods were so long and heavy and strongly suggested it would be in my best interest to have a hysterectomy, so I did and was DX with breast cancer 1.5 years ago (2001). My oncologist did ask me if I has a hysterectomy because if not I would have to have a total prior to going on Tamoxifin. So I strongly believe it’s a standard rule.
