I also had glutamine recommended to me. I try to take it 3 x's/day. It's tasteless but gritty. I mix it in w/ yogurt & cereal in the morning or mix it w/ juice or snapple & drink it. I also take Vit. B6 & B12. Tylenol helps if the fingers get a bit painful. Overall, the neuropathy hasn't been too bad. My nurses said glutamine is the one thing that has been found to be helpful & they have encouraged me to keep taking it for about 6 mo. post chemo.
Isabella,
I just went to a massage therapist who specializes in oncology massage. She also specializes in massage for neuropathy caused by chemo drugs. She said she has had great success in helping patients with neuropathy. I would give it a try if you can find a massage therapist who does this kind of thing.
No, but sure wish I did! I'm taking 200 mg of Vitamin B6 daily. The problem is it takes a long, long time for the nerves to recover after they are damaged. (Did I say long?)
My hands are starting their come back. It has been 4 months since I finished treatment. Patience.
Yes, Cymbalta is in phase III trials for peripheral neuropathy. However, it's already an FDA approved drug for depression, so can be prescribed off label.
I know this my sound strange but Cymbalta works great. I tried Neurotin but got sever migrains with it so my doctor had me try Cymbalta. It works wonders. Doesn't take it completely away but the tingling and burning are more bearable. I can actually feel things again. Plus it helps with the mood swings.
