I had a infection in on my left side , had to have the expander removed, and then spent a week in ICU because of septic infection. It also weekened me so much that my chemo had to be put off for almost 6 weeks. Then I had to have the expander replaced a year later, and went though the process of having them expanded until I was comfortable with them, then had the silicone implants put in about six months later, I am still not happy with them at all, but am scared to go back, because I am just sick of the surguries, so now I just wore shaped bras and they look fine, its just not worth going through more pain for me.

I had infection in my right breast after bilateral mastectomy. Antibiotics didn't fix it and the first day of chemotherapy was getting closer. My plastic surgeon decided to remove the expander. She put it back about two months after I finished chemo. I didn't experience any problems. About two months later, I had 16 sessions of radiation therapy.

I have an infection after bilateral mastectomy. The infection was in my left side and my chest wall was cleanse and the tissue expander exchanged.

yes, 3 times....I contracted MRSA during my "drive-through" bilateral mastectomies and throughout my chemo and finally gave up and had a 3rd pair removed last Nov. due to encapsulation. Just last month I used what little fat I had built up over the treatment to build up the concavity... lipo/cleanse/reinject to make my new little boobs! FINALLY, I feel like me 5 years later!

I had an infection on the left side with the tissue expander and it had to be removed. I am waiting to finish chemo before replacing it.
