Welcome, and wow — six days out from a mastectomy with reconstruction is still very early days. That's a big surgery, and it's completely normal to be looking for others who've been through the same thing.

Many MyBCTeam members have shared similar experiences. You're definitely not alone in this journey! Here's what many people experience in the early recovery period after mastectomy with reconstruction:

- Surgical drains are common and usually stay in for about 2–3 weeks, depending on fluid output
- Hospital stays are typically 1–2 nights, though some go home the same day
- Rest is essential — your body is doing a lot of healing right now
- Arm movement may feel restricted, especially if lymph nodes were removed

Recovery looks different for everyone, and setbacks don't define the final outcome. One MyBCTeam member shared that even after a complication, they stayed positive saying, "it's still a good day!"

Be sure to follow your surgical team's guidance closely, keep track of your drain output daily, and don't hesitate to reach out to your doctor if anything feels off. You've got this! 💪
