I had the option of getting proton radiation therapy at Mayo Clinic, but my life would have been upended for a month. The photon radiation I received here in town, while not as precise at limiting the rays to only cancerous cells, the breath holding techniques did mitigate the risk to my lungs and heart. My radiologist here at Banner, met with the radiologist at Mayo after my consultations with both. They agreed that staying here for treatment would be pretty safe, since I was able to perform the breathing technique. I have made peace with my decision. Hope this helps some of y’all.
