Hi Susan....I'm also in Florida. Used to live near Lauderdale, but I'm way up north by the Georgia border now. I was first diagnosed with breast cancer in 2017 and endometrial cancer in 2019 and have dealt with active cancer 6 times now. I've had 15 cancer related surgeries, 2 rounds of chemo, and have had radiation 5 times now. What I have learned and experienced from all I've gone through is to be as active as I can possibly be because the more I can do while going through any sort of treatment, the more I will be able to do after I recover from various treatments. The after effects of chemo are cumulative and will most likely make you tired and have less energy which will build up gradually as you have more sessions completed. Just listen to your body. If you're tired then rest, if you hurt then stop and let yourself heal. And be sure to show yourself grace and patience. Good luck with your treatments ❤️
I was 62, had mastectomy, and my surgeon was willing to release me back to work at 5 weeks, the oncologist wanted at least 2 chemo sessions in- so I was off work for 8 weeks before going back to the classroom full time. I did have to take a day off every 3 weeks for chemo (Being HER2+ I had a year of infusions). I also kept doing my volunteer work walking the trails at the local Arboretum collecting nestbox data. It took me longer to do the trails since I would get tired sooner (lowered red blood cells counts- they are the oxygen carriers to the body). But, there was no time limit that we had to have the trails done in. Just listen to your body, keep being as active as you can, pace yourself, and fuel your body with healthy food/hydration! Cancer takes enough from us, and since I loved both my work and volunteer activities- I was determined to find ways to continue both! Though I have since retired, I am still doing my volunteer work and will be turning 70 during this bluebird season!
Hugs!
It's warmer here this week! I really want to get out and finishing cutting some limbs off the big pines along the bottom so I can get to some of the invasives I can spot under there- just not safe yet with our ice crusted snow!
I had chemo first. I worked third shift as in inpatient nurse, I worked 3 days, 12 hour shifts. I was 54. I worked through chemo
Thank you, I am very active 69, was working partime, and watching my 2 litte grand babies almost daily. I want to be able to get back to some of this. Thanks for the encouragement.
