Rib Pain After Lumpectomy, Mastectomy, or Lymph Node Removal Read Article...
A MyBCTeam Member

Underarm pain is fairly common after mastecomy and lymph node removal and can be caused by any number of things. My armpit hurts every time I move my arm around ever since I had 16 lymph nodes removed along with lymph bypass surgery when my breast cancer returned a little over a year ago. The AI response you received gives some pretty good info. If you haven't already done so, please talk to your doctor about the pain you are experiencing and based on your symptoms they should hopefully be able to come up with some suggestions and/or treatments to make it more tolerable. Good luck to you ❤️

Is underarm pinching normal after mastectomy and lymph node removal?

Yes, occasional pinching sensations in your underarm are normal after mastectomy and lymph node removal. As your nerves regrow and heal after surgery, you may experience various sensations including:

* Crawling or itching feelings
* Numbness
* Burning or shooting pain
* Tightness or pinching

These sensations often decrease over time. Many people experience nerve-related discomfort as their body heals from surgery, and this can continue for weeks or even months afterward.

If the pinching becomes prolonged, severe, or is accompanied by other symptoms like swelling, warmth, fever, or significant pain, it's important to contact your healthcare provider. They can evaluate whether what you're experiencing is part of normal healing or if it needs additional attention.

Exercise and physical therapy can help relieve these sensations and improve your recovery. Your doctor may also recommend pain management options if the discomfort becomes bothersome.
