I used sensodyne and switched to a soft bristle toothbrush. I used a dry mouth oral rinse as a mouthwash. I used shampoo and conditioner that contained biotin. I didn't take anything for nails but I did get a gel manicure every 3 weeks. I was told it would protect my nails.

I use biotene toothpaste and mouth rinse. Nimbus soft bristle toothbrush and cover with a steri pod. I also used salt water/baking soda rinse between meals at first. Luckily I was able to avoid mouth sores.

What vitamins and toothpaste can help during chemotherapy?

Hair and Nail Vitamins

While certain vitamins and supplements may support hair health, it's important to discuss any supplements with your oncologist before starting them. Some nutrients that support hair growth include protein, biotin, and certain B vitamins. However, your healthcare team needs to approve what's safe for you specifically, as some supplements can interfere with chemotherapy.

Focus on getting adequate protein in your diet, as protein deficiency can affect hair health. Your doctor may recommend specific supplements based on your individual needs.

Toothpaste During Chemo

For toothpaste during chemotherapy, gentle options work best. Use a toothbrush with soft bristles and avoid toothpaste with strong minty flavors, which can be irritating when you're experiencing mouth sensitivity or dry mouth.

Your oncologist or dentist can recommend specific gentle toothpaste brands that won't irritate your mouth during treatment. It's also recommended to visit your dentist before starting chemo to address any dental issues and get personalized recommendations for oral care products.

Consider using dry mouth mouthwash and keeping water nearby to sip frequently if you experience dry mouth as a side effect.
