Can you please share your experience? And or any studies or research on how Prolia along with an aromatase inhibitor is helping reduce recurrence?
I started Prolia pretty much right away after getting on Letrozole. It doesn’t hurt, it’s a tiny injection in the upper arm. It’s taken every 6 months and the biggest concern is coordinating dental work. Absolutely NO drilling or dental work within 3 months of the shot. The worst possible side effect is jaw necrosis that is not reversible. Upon stopping, there is a small possibility of breaking a femur. A broken bone is fixable but jaw necrosis is not. I recently screwed up and had a small cavity filled (drilling) 3 weeks before my next shot. Told the doc and they pushed my shot appt out 3 months, no problem. I have not been told there is a problem stopping the shots and bone loss.

I took Prolia for 2 reasons - 1- I was already osteopenic and needed treatment to start and 2- my blood calcium was too high and wouldn’t come down. Prolia is a recommended treatment for high calcium. The jaw necrosis is almost always associated with dental work (not cleanings) done too close to shots. Just one more scheduling issue to be careful of.
I just don't understand why women take this risk of possible jaw necrosis or bones breaking from these bone injections. Just the very thought of it sounds awful. I refused both prolia and reclast . There are a few women who have had jaw necrosis here and its extremely painful. Anytime I hear side effects are not reversible that tells me not to take the drug. I wish you good luck .

True @A MyBCTeam Member most of us have never met an oncologist before and its understanding when a woman takes her first steps into an oncologists office, she is usually ignorant of everything related to breast cancer so she puts her trust into her doctors hands but as we know and found out we can't rely on them totally, they are not always up front and honest and the side effect issue in relation to every treatment is one they are least honest about.
Women find this site often after decisions were made and treatments started
