Did Anyone Else Work Full Time While On Chemo?

A MyBCTeam Member asked a question 💭
Duluth, GA

I am only on my first treatment of Chemo but plan on continue to work (of course taking it week by week). Does anyone else have any experiences with working full time while on treatment? What should I expect? If not, I will take some time off (but I don't have a lot of time...)

I always did chemo on Thursday and took Friday off. It's helps because your job and the stress of just going through the process is draining. You have to take care of your mental and physical health above all else.

Thank you so much for all the advice. I do take Chemo on Thursdays and will take off for Friday. The first Chemo was a Thursday but went to work anyway on Friday. My doctor wasn't happy! I was fine but it was my first Chemo treatment. That next Monday and a few days after was a little different... a little nausea, heartburn and a little diarrhea. I will learn from this next time!

I did labs on Weds after school, and then chemo on Fridays. Then because I worked at a school, I had the weekend to sleep! Hugs!

Afternoons were tough- so I would (and still do!) sip on tea with extra caffeine- and kept a jar of dark chocolate covered roasted coffee beans in the drawer- munching a few of those will make your tongue happy and put some pep back in your step- lol!!

I had surgery first, then chemo. The oncologist would not sign off on me returning to work until at least 2 chemos were done. After that I worked full time, I was 62 at the time, and was getting chemo and targeted drug infusions on a three week schedule for slightly more than a year.
