Docetaxel and Cyclophosphamide
I fly from MO to AZ for treatment...so if I need it, I have to bring it.
Suck on ice during treatment to avoid mouth ulcers. I also wore suzziepacks on my hands and feet to reduce possible neuropathy and nail loss. I did lose my fingernails and now some toenails. My oncologist had me on prednisone the day before and the following 4 days post treatment. I always felt great for 3-4 days following treatment once I realized I needed to be proactive on GI issues (diarrhea and constipation). My body totally dried up. Lack of saliva made food difficult, especially carbs. My sweet tooth exploded! MY face has never been so free of blackheads, enlarged oil glands and acne.
I had 6 cycles, and they got easier each time.
If you have a port bring Lidocaine. I was prescribed this but not told to put it on before chemo the first time. Made a big difference after the first treatment
If the port area is still sore on Monday, ask about the numbing spray- (the creme has to be applied longer in advance, the spray is immediate) if that is not available, ask the nurse to ice the area before accessing. I had the port placed on a Thursday afternoon, and chemo the next morning- and the nurse iced as she said it was too soon to use the numbing agents (area needed more healing).
In addition to your nausea meds, carry some packs of crackers, and the Gin-Gin candies, ginger is a natural tummy soother. Wishing you all the best! Hugs!
Friday is port placement, Monday is chemo and I fly home Tuesday...
I hope and pray that the premeds last til I get home and that I don't have any quick side effects that hit while traveling.
You will want to wear comfortable clothes, maybe layers as sometimes the air conditioning in hospitals make it chilly. I used their warm blankets, some bring a blanket. I would work third shift the night before, and try to sleep though it, so I always brought a play list and head phones. I am not a breakfast eater, so I would bring food, like yogurt, fruit, pretzels. I brought a book in case I wanted to read. I drank their water, some bring their own water bottle. Some places have DVD players, you could bring a movie. I have seen people bring cards, cribbage, board games. Some people bring computers and work.
TC can cause nausea. Make sure you bring your medication with you in case you feel nauseous on the way home.
Are you flying home same day? That sounds rough to me.
Wishing you well!
