For my first chemo session, before they started the chemo drugs they gave me Benedryl via the IV- and the dosage was based on my adult "fluffy" weight- lol! I use Benedryl whenever I get poison ivy- but only the kid's dose. Well, the IV had me out within minutes, and I slept (soundly!!) for the first few hours- only woke up because my bladder insisted! Since the first session went well, I still got Benedryl for the following sessions- but in tablet form. There were also steroids in the mix, so I was always hungry when the sessions ended. I ate a good breakfast, scrambled eggs- which is a light protein, not heavy or greasy. Our center does not have a cafeteria there, so I would just snack until my time was up, then hit Golden Corral. I never knew what I would feel like eating, so this was a good match! There was a point- I don't know which drug- but it always felt cold- but not uncomfortable, and I would usually get a weird taste in my mouth. The Gin-Gin candies really helped offset the strange taste, and since ginger is a natural tummy soother- a win-win! I usually slept for the first part of chemo, and then slept soundly that night. I think part of it is the drugs- but probably more so, that I did not sleep well in the nights leading up to it- too stressful, hoping everything would go ok.

I did not feel it going in. I always would get a metallic taste in my mouth when they accessed my port, flushed it with saline. I always felt good the day of and after chemo, probably from the steroids.

I personally didn't feel anything different when I was having g my 4 chemo sessions. I did go back after 2 days for fluid and a shot to help my white blood cell count and gave me a boost. Wasn't tired and was able to go shopping with my husband go out to dinner with friends.

I felt nothing when I just finished with my chemo. But everyone is different. I was lucky with no side effects.
