My experience was the same as Marita's. The most uncomfortable part was finding a comfortable sleeping position (I am a serious side sleeper) sleeping upright in the recliner worked best for me. The drains were not too bad, but I was glad to see them go- lol! I was 62 and working full time when I had the single mastectomy, I took a total of 8 weeks off to heal and to get the first two of six chemo sessions done, before returning to work full time. I was tired at the end of the day- but I was able to keep working, and keep my volunteer activities going. For me, no regrets, and my surgery was 5 years ago! Hugs!

I had a unilateral mastectomy last August. The worst part for me was the drains, but that was temporary. Since all the nerves in my breast were cut, it’s numb with no feeling including no pain. I did have electrical zaps for about a month where the nerves were still trying to send signals. But those were quick gotchas that decreased in frequency and eventually stopped. This is not to say it was easy, I still needed plenty of healing time and tired out very easy for months. But It has not been as bad as I expected.

I really can't help with this because I too had a lumpectomy. I pray everything works out the best for you.
