I had taxotere and carboplatin. My eyes began to water incessantly and I also read the articles about the lawsuits claiming that the Manufacturer didn’t clearly indicate the possibility of the eye disorder of stenosis (narrowing) of the canniculi. (Tear ducts). So I went and had an ophthalmologist examine me and do a test with a probe and saline injected into my tear ducts. Not pleasant, but bearable. Turned out that my tear ducts were fine. I am 3 1/2 months post my last chemo and. Still have the watering(tears running down my cheeks) but it is much more infrequent and very bearable. I still can’t wear my contacts but it’s not too much of a nuisance like it was. Please feel

Reading through the side effects for any of these chemo drugs can make you weak in the knees! Keep in mind that a lot of what pops up during your Google search is probably an assortment of legal sites looking for additional clients to get in on any class action suits, where they will be able to bill the clients for a piece of any settlement.

Most often the hair loss with Taxotere is temporary, however, there is the risk that the hair loss is permanent. The lawsuit came about because people felt the manufacturer downplayed the risk, and that it is higher than the 3% originally claimed. The eye damage is the same way, there is a chance that the watery eyes would continue if the drug permanently damaged the tear ducts, and that there is a slight increased risk of damage with weekly vs tri-weekly treatment. The NP went over that with me during the chemo class, and while a bit scary, I was more concerned about the possibility of a rare type of leukemia 15 years down the road. But, my thought was, I have a real, life threatening cancer right now- and if these are the best drugs to fight that- I would cross the next bridge if and when I got to it.
I am now 4 years out of active treatment, my eyelashes and eyebrows are barely there (thank goodness for eyeliner and brow makeup), and the hair on my head is not as thick as before, but it was super thick before, so it's ok. The teary eyes did clear up- and so far so good. Next images for me are later this month. Please know you can always ask about other drugs, or even get a second opinion- you do whatever you need to do for peace of mind. Tight hugs!

I am now 5 years out of treatment, and consider mine "permanently thinned". It hasn't gotten worse- but at least stabilized. Even now, I am always checking the hair brush! Hugs!

I do believe I have permanent hair loss even though no one has confirmed it yet. I would love to know if I am in the %
