I wore mine until the drains came out which was two weeks(due to after 1 week it had not drained enough). Then I just wore a very lightweight sports bra or even just an undershirt for the softness and protection. I am 6 weeks out and have been active since the drains came out! Also, stretched each my arms and torso each day.
After my drains came out, I had a lot of fluid build up so I was wearing compression garments for another few weeks. Honestly I have been wearing sports bras 24/7 for the past 6 months. My expander is prepectoral, or above the muscle, and I feel like my skin could easily stretch and my boobs be back down at my belly. So I am trying to keep them in place, but wearing a bra 24/7 is probably not sustainable long term.
I wore it till the drains came out and I did wear it a few nights for comfort. I’m almost 13 weeks out no muscle pains and getting back to my routines. No reconstructive surgery.
I'll just make a note here for others who may not know about this. For those of us who don't want reconstruction but may not always be comfortable going flat (or lopsided), there are special bras in which you can tuck a breast form. There are special shops with trained fitters who will help you get the right style and size for you. Under Medicare (for those of us lucky to have it), you get 12 (?) free bras in a year and a new breast form every 2 years (they are covered by a 2 year warranty). These are surprisingly comfortable and, of course, you don't have to wear them anymore than you want to. I don't know about private insurance coverage but I was amazed at what a good deal this was. You need a prescription to get them so it is good to bring it up with your surgeon. My surgeon didn't bring it up until I asked but she was perfectly willing to write it.
