Also is the size of the tumor as recorded by the ultrasound biopsy fairly accurate?
It depends on what type of breast cancer (bio markers sometimes suggest Neo adjuvant chemo), do additional biopsies need to be done, do staging scans have to be done (PET or CT/bone scan), what kind of surgery is planned (is reconstruction going to happen, adding a plastic surgeon). Once surgery is decided, the surgeon’s schedule, getting OR time.
My Ultrasound didn't pick up my second larger tumor either. My second tumor in same right breast was found on MRI.
Like LauraAhn said there are many factors that affect timing. I was diagnosied May 2022 via ultrasound biopsy. Breast surgeon scheduled an MRI for staging. MRI showed more areas of concern, so 2 MRI guided biopsies in early July 2022. Surgery was Aug 2022. Comimg up on a year and doing great. DMX. So to your 2nd question, the ultrasound did not pick up the final size of one tumor nor the presence of another. I think it had to do with the location in my breasts making it harder for the ultrasound not "see". AND I had large dense breasts.
Mine wasn’t. Biopsy and MRI showed an extremely small tumor. After surgery, found out it was
