I had the cream as well, just put a blob on and cover with the plastic wrap. Unlike most lotions- the lidacaine does not get rubbed in. The plastic wrap protects your clothes while keeping the blob in place. You should be able to feel three little bumps that form a triangle. That's the target! I will say I had "surprise" labs one time, so had to get the stick without the lidocaine- and even that was not so bad. Mostly you just feel the pressure (not pain) of them pushing the needle. You will be nervous, but after you go through it once- you will realize how much easier the port makes the experience! Hugs!

I get mine put on on the 15th. I'm not looking forward to it. But my surgeon said only to expect a little discomfort that day with only taking Tylenol. I sure hope he's right. I've talked to a few people and they said no big problem. I would call your Dr though. And I think about how long it stays in. Not thrilled about that either. There's got to be a better solution then all this. If only!-

Same here, the ice was really helpful when I would fall asleep, and then wake up because it had worn off. The ice really helped bridge the time until the next dose kicked in! Gentle hugs!
