I am 6 years out from diagnosis and recently told medical oncologist that I'd like to take a break from Lupron and Letrozole for a couple months - just getting fed up with the side effects and want to remember what my body feels like without so many chemicals in it :( She told me there is a test called the Breast Cancer Index that will tell me if I would be a patient that benefits from years 6-10 on the meds. Has anyone else used this test? Do you feel confident in it?
I had the test and my recurrence rate jumped from single digit to 15%-20% range. Hence, my oncologist recommended continuing Letrozole to year 10. I am a couple months shy of 7 years on hormone inhibitor. So, I continue the journey with the Letrozole.
yep, my onco score put me at intermediate risk for reoccurrence...so I was on the border of whether the meds would be beneficial or not. That's why she recommended this test as it tells more info for years 6-10 - if the meds would be beneficial for my tumor makeup....
Breast Index is not the Onco Type DX test. It is a separate test. My oncologist had the test done around d my 5 year mark. It is done to determine if there would be any benefit from continuing another 5 years of hormone inhibitor.

Yes, I had that test and it showed taking Letrozole was recommended. I cried but my daughter told be at least you know you are doing the best thing :/
