Hi all - I am over a year post chemo, 1 year post radiation & 1 year on Tamoxifen. I worked & exercised all thru treatment. Was recently transferred to NYC for my job, so its a long day. I feel more tired now than I did during treatment. Have no energy to exercise & sleeping awful - waking up every 2 hours due to hot flashes. Any advice on how to get my energy back, sleep better, less hot flashes? My Dr suggested ongoing acupuncture but who has the time?
@A MyBCTeam Member - I went to City Acupuncture on Friday, located near Columbus Circle on W. 58th btwn 6th/7th. That is closer to your work than the UWS. It’s another option if MSK doesn’t fit your schedule.
It is semi-private community acupuncture at $55/session or you can buy a discounted package. Lots of time slots to choose from so it is flexible for me. I’ll continue going here weekly.
Mathew and Lilly do acupuncture there and both are great. You might have to go during the day.
My office is 46th btwn 5th/6th Diamond District, so not far from you. I cannot imagine that long of a commute, I hope it’s a great job! I wasn’t working when I was diagnosed as I was trying to change careers into non profit, but without direct experience, I couldn’t get interviews. I’m just back to work 4 weeks ago with a new job in my old field, after a couple years off.
If you ever like to meet up, let me know😊
Hi @A MyBCTeam Member - welcome to the Big Apple! I am also one year post chemo, BMX and a year on Tamoxifen and just started working full time again. The city IS exhausting. The work pace is faster than other parts of the country and more competitive. The commute alone can be stressful and draining at times. I’m in the UWS, where are you?
I highly recommend acupuncture for energy and hot flashes. Since I started working I haven’t been and am looking for a new place so I can go after work or on Saturday. I was going to MSK Alternative Medicine group sessions in the afternoon- less expensive at $65. Most places charge $100+ it seems for a private appt.
Adding you to my team😊
@A MyBCTeam Member I felt better during chemo than I did months later being in the estrogen blocker. I found that cutting sugar and eating low carb has helped me so much. I don’t get hot flashes anymore and I have lots of energy and no body pain. I ate lasagna bread and apple pie Christmas Eve and I had hot flashes all night and was miserable with body pain the next day and had to nap. The past couple of months I’ve been eating no sugar and low carb but if I do eat them I feel the same way I did Christmas Eve night. So I know that works for me.
My insurance would only cover acupuncture for chemo related side effects....I tried.
