At the age of 90 I would consider qulaity of life. A lumpectomy recovery was minimal for me at age 58. I have already decided if I have reoccurrence at 70 or older I will not endure chemo or radiation again. I can not imagine what radiation would do to 90 year old skin/bones/organs let alone the fatigue! Just the treatment schedule is exhausting. I would get a second opinion before opting for any treatment more than the lumpectomy. Nor knowing the general health of your mother makes it difficult to be sure what is right for her and treatments affect everyone differently. Knowing this I would still be hesitant to put a 90 year old through chemo or radiation or even the hormone blocker. I take Letrozole and it's not a picnic. Best wishes to you.

I think her doctor needs to go over her entire medical history to see if she can have either surgery. I had a SIL who at 80 had a heart attack. They wanted to do a triple bypass and she refused because she was afraid she wouldn't make it through surgery or be disabled after surgery. She lived for 5 more years and she was healthy enough to enjoy her family and be active the last 5 years of her life. You need to be specific when you ask the surgeons the questions,

If it were my mom, I would probably consider a lumpectomy and would opt NOT to do the sentinal lymph node biopsy. No radiation. I think no matter what, you should meet with another doctor and get another opinion. I pray you find the answers and clarity you seek. 🙏🏻💗

At 90 I would worry whether she is healthy enough for surgery. I would really ask the ONC what her risks are with both surgeries, even if she chooses a Lumlectomy she doesn't have to do radiation. She is stage 1 so the tumor is small and slow growing. I might want to get a second opinion. Doing all of the treatment may not extend her life much,
