I' m 9 months postmastectiomy and axillary dissection. My arm always feels fat and skin on my chest in to axilla feels tight. Do others have this same feeling?
I had a complete axillary dissection in 2008 and never did regain sensation under that arm. The "puffiness" in that area never went away either. I had a recerrance and double mastectomy August 2016 and developed lymphedema in that arm. I think I had some minor swelling prior to the recent surgery, but not enough to be problematic. It is definitely problematic now though. Stretching and lymphedema exercises help with the tight feeling.
@A MyBCTeam Member... that feeling has faded quite a bit, but i am still not 100 percent back to normal. I am almost 3 years out from bilateral mastectomy, and I think that "fat" feeling started fading after a year, and my chest started feeling less tight after about a year and a half. Do a lot of stretching and hang in there, Warrior!
Do you wear a compression sleeve one the affected arm? Raise arm over your head and massage downward to help facilitate the draining of fluid buildup?
I am dealing with this right now..double mastectomy in dec..I had to have right chest drained twice. Now I have lymphedema in my left arm pit..it looks like a extra breast from the front and back..I am seeing a facia specialist once a week and have been for two months..I am active do all exercises and still this is happening...I didn't do reconstruction...I need some ideas or something different I can try..my surgeon basically says she hopes it doesn't spread down my arm...really???? I need some ideas...ty
