I'm HER2+. Had TCHP chemo, continuing Herceptin through Dec. Recently had left mastectomy w immediate reconstruction w expander. Felt pretty good for two weeks. Then woke up w a high temp, headed to ER and doc removed expander due to infection. It was a staph infection in my blood. Boy that scared me. Has this happened to anyone else? Did you try the expander route again?
Yes I was 1 day from having my drain removed too! But I'm thankful that what was coming out of my drain made it obvious I had an infection.
Wow, you sound just like my story. Check out my bio. Got an infection right after having drains removed. Had both expanders removed. Had 2xmast with the reconstruction before chemo. Had to wait to complete chemo begire could reattempt expanders. I thought for sure there'd be no way since the skin caved in, wrinkled and got tough. My plastic surgeon kept telling me not to worry. I kept moisturizing the skin and it eventually got soft again. He was right. No issues with the second attempt. Fingers crossed.
