Those With DCIS, Did You Have A Sentinel Node Biopsy?
DCIS stage 0, 1cm area, grade 3 ER/PR+. My surgeon is only doing the sentinel node biopsy because I requested. I also asked about MRI but he said that it wasn't needed. I did the BRCA test (negative for both). Is it usual to just do the lumpectomy and not do a node biopsy? How did you decide? (If you did?)
I had a lumpectomy and the sentinel node biopsy last September... was told by my surgeon it was a must. Happy to say I had no lymph node involvement and my margins were clear. I was stage 1 with a 1.4 cm tumor. Unfortunately my cancer was ER+, PR+ and Her2+ which meant I needed chemo. I still have numbness in my armpit area from the node biopsy, but, as the months go by it seems to be getting better.
I took my surgeon's advice when it came to what procedures were needed. Good luck to you on your journey.
I have been told it doesn't matter what stage your at but if your + ER & PR. A breast MRI is for diagnosing so if you want one then ask for it with another breast oncologist surgeon. Your just being cautious and proactive which is okay.
DCIS Stage 0, High Grade (Level 3), ER 95%/PR 885%. Had lumpectomy, only 1/2 inch square area of DCIS. No lymph nodes removed. Asked for an Oncotype test to determine how aggressive DCIS is. Results 16/100, lower than 39 is low risk. Lower than 11 no radiation. I declined radiation, Tamoxifen and Arimidex. Found on MRI - early find. Followup is MRI 6 months after diagnosis, mammo 6 months later, than another MRi 6 months after mammo, etc.
