Avon Lake, OH

My RO's nurse gave me samples of Aquaphor to use on my sore red skin. When I googled the ingredients I found it has mineral oil and alcohol in it. How can that be good for my skin. Should I use coconut oil instead?

My Doctor recommend Vanicream. It's a very boring plain cream but it worked !!! My skin looks great after 28 treatments. At the end of radiation when the skin got a little sore it was so comforting. When my surgeon saw me after radiation she was amazed at how good my skin looked. It's pretty inexpensive and you can get it just about every where in the face soaps and moisturizer departments of drug stores. Love it!

Dear jwags,

Here is a recipe my ABCD mentor recommended to me:

Organic Body Butter

Ingredients
½ Cup Organic Pure Raw Shea Butter (check ingredients)
4 TBSP Olive Oil or ½ cup of Coconut oil
30 drops essential oils - Vanilla, Lavender, Rose, etc. *

2 TBSP Carrier oil – Almond, Jojoba, Vitamin E, Avocado oil, Olive only if Coconut oil was used in the base

Melt Shea butter and either 4 tbsp of olive oil OR ½ cup of coconut oil in double boiler or a glass dish that fits over a sauce pan with slow boiling water, until the butter and oil are in a liquid state. Remove and put this in the fridge to cool. When it is cool enough that you can make a slight finger indentation, take it out of fridge. Add 2 tbsp of your carrier oil and whip, adding essential oil to your liking as you go.
Whip to consistency you desire.

Put into lidded containers. There are some good plastic storage containers with screw on lids at the grocery store.

Lasts about 6 months or longer if stored in the refrigerator.

*I used Lavender but there has recently been some discussion about lavender effecting estrogen.

Use for Radiation therapy

You will receive instructions to make sure the area to be radiated is free of lotions and oils before your treatment. This is very important because oils and lotions act like oil in the fry pan and will cause you to burn. But take a small container of the body butter with you and put some on immediately after radiation. Put the butter on before bed and be generous!
Before radiation the next day, shower or clean the area with a non-lotion soap. Homemade soaps with glycerin will take all the oils off.

Good luck! I’m a fair skinned red-head and this worked for me for 36 sessions of radiation. I didn’t get burned at all.

I will mix this one up for myself if I decide to get radiation.
