What I had to do was eat protein for dinner the night before so I had a piece of grilled chicken and a piece of grilled salmon and that was it and it was enough.
Then I made an early morning appt. for the PETscan so the six hours prior that I had to fast , drinking water only, was spent sleeping and then get up and shower and go for the test and have breakfast afterwards, but it definitely makes it more difficult if you have to wait till the afternoon and fast until then.
The test is not difficult and the important thing is wishing and hoping and getting good results.

Mine have been just like EllenK said. I have had 4 of them. I didn't have a special diet to follow. I just couldn't eat or drink anything but water for 4 hours before the test. I had to wait a hour and half for the radioactive isotope to go thru my body. The scan itself took about 20 minutes. It is pretty easy.

Pet was done w IV. CT you have to drink stuff....and wait.

Have been having them for 18 years or so. Actually I was the first person to ever have one at northshore hospital. You can't eat any sugar for 24hrs before. Not eating or drinking after midnight. You go in a room alone, and they put in an iv. They inject you with a low dose radioactive dye. You relax with verlittle movement for an hr as they need they dye to settle. Iv is taken out and the scan is like a cat scan about 45 min. I do it early in am and take a Xanax so most of the time I sleep. Don't wear anything w metal, sweats are good as the scan room is freezing. I usually have a bad stomach for a day or do but that's it. It's fairly easy but nerve racking. As for a cd if your scan so you have it. They will give it to you if not nicely insist. Results are usually in 24 hrs. Hope this helps!!! And sending perfect results your way!!

Thanks for warning me about the false positives. I kept thinking of your post during this crazy time. It appears that these tests have high error rates and each test led to another and another after that.

After Ct, MRI, pet Ct scans the doctors still needed more. Blood tests with cancer markers and urine cultures by a specialist led to me begging for mercy.

Doctors originally wanted biopsy but the specialist is allowing a wait and see approach with a couple of week break.
He believes it's benign and I can wait and recoup.
