Just looking for feedback on aromasin vs arimidex. I have been on Arimidex since March after my hysterectomy.
I tolerated tamoxifen well and am tolerating arimidex fairly well other than some joint and muscle pain and weight gain but feel like I have been more fatigued lately. doc mentioned an option to switch to aromasin to see how well I tolerate. just looking for feedback from others who have been taking aromasin.
stage IV triple positive.
thanks.

I started on arimidex and at about 5 months in, the body aches and pains got so bad I couldn't get out of bed one morning. Got off for a week started feeling great and realized it had been causing me depression and fatigue also. I am now on aromasin and doing better. Still have minor aches and pains but more energetic and less depressed, also weight gain on both. Good luck.

I was on Gabapentin for 2 years through the Mayo Clinic. It worked for me until they changed who made it. Then I went off. Armidex I was on for 8 years. I then went off. A patient recently told me she is going to be on it for 10 years. I had some side effects: gaining weight. Then pre-diabetes when I went off. I am no longer diabetic, pre-diabetic or anything.

@A MyBCTeam Member the good thing is you make the decision. We never had any gaurantees from our conception that all decisions made by us, or by others for us will be the right decisions. Have faith in your decision. Always look forward.

Have you tried glucosamine or chondritin as a supplement to help this is helping me on Femera aka Letrozole & Ibrance. I have in the past taken echenecia and curcurium to help inflammation. It helped ease the pain. I am on a different medication now and curcurium is contradictory so I have stopped. Before you try any complimentary herbs to your therapy consult your doctor or eve your pharmacist. They can tell you if it is okay to use. I also had Accupuncture. The best thing I could have done for myself. I even tried marijuana for the pain from Neulasta, Nassau from chemo That was not only fun but wow eased that pain like nothing else. I have expeierenced bone and joint pain on this journey from many different drugs and chemo but I have not take either Arimidex or Aromasin. Maybe something will work for you to continue tolerating the medicine.

@A MyBCTeam Member - they started me on anastrozole (arimidex) and it wasn't bad for a few weeks except a severe itching on my arms - thought I would tear the skin off at some points. Then the bone pain started and got continually worse. Especially at night, trying to sleep - the hip pain was so bad I couldn't even sleep. After one horrible sleepless night I finally called my onc and said NO MORE. He switched me to exemestane (aromasin) and I was able to tolerate it as long as I took my 500 mg of Naproxen DR twice a day. Still had pain but nothing like on the anastrozole. I'm now on a new chemo called Kadcyla and they let me stop the hormone blockers and I can't tell you how much better I feel. This is the most "normal" I've felt since all these treatments started.

Hi! I've been on Arimidex for 3 years. I tolerate it well except for joint aches and weight gain. I was tired of the aches so last year I tried aromasin and I didn't tolerate it well. I felt more aches and pains. After I switched back to arimidex (I'm on generic) I was good for many MO the with only mild aches and now I'm back to worse aches. It has caused mild depression in the winter months so be aware of "down" feelings and be sure to tell your Onc. Oh and I started cymbalta last year for not only the mild depression but it's supposed to help with fibro myalgia type aches.
Hope this helps. Feel free to contact me anytime at [[email: [[email: (Email address can only be seen by the question and answer creators)
