For those younger women experiencing cancer I found a website that is well organized for additional peer phone support, college financial aid and other rani cal assistance. It's called cancer sucks @ cancer sucks.com. Also there is Tiger Lilly another wonderful foundation for support. There is the Young Cancer Survivors Coalition as well. I hope this may help those who were diagnosed under the age of 40.
@A MyBCTeam Member - there is help out there - sometimes it takes some digging but I always tell everyone to check with the oncologists office to see if they know of charities that can help!

We only know a small bit of what causes breast cancer, but do not genetically test everyone, it's just not feasible nor does everyone want it. We don't know how to avoid it. We do know it can attack women and men. We also know that when it attacks young women it is likely that they will be diagnosed with an aggressive form and at a more advanced stage. We also know that this cancer does not discriminate with age and doesn't concern itself with a family history. My question is, while we know this why are we so committed to not allowing cancer screening with a mammogram because you are a young person, age between 25-40, healthy and no family history. These ideas that screenings don't need to happen until person is at a certain age with a family history are archaic and need revision.
@A MyBCTeam Member - I put that question to the surgeon when I met with her - told her there was no cancer in my family, I nursed my kids, didn't drink diet soda (or diet anything), etc. She said "hun you did everything right - if I really knew what caused cancer, I'd be a millionaire - we just don't know!"
I do hope one day they do change. In stead of using a simple tool one time for diagnosis they in turn are covering and loosing money as I fight for my life. At least I can fight some cannot and loose right away. Because they don't use the tools properly they condemn some to early death.
I have signed petitions to change the laws. I have advocated at events and rallied for fundraising. It's just not enough for the law makers to see. They have special privelages and coverage within their healthcare system. I know they would not accept the plans and care the majority of us have let alone the underprivileged and underinsured. We all should have the right to the same policies and the same care. I believe that we should all pay on a sliding scale in accordance to what we earn even on Medicare. Okay I am done I am off my soap box.
