Day 5 on astrozole ( armidex ) and I am so tired walking across the room is an effort. Aches and pains manageable. Scared the rest of my life will be like this. Did anyone else experience this and did this side effect lessen with time. I am trying to stay positive but I am weepy with exhaustion.
I have been taking ameridex now for 2 weeks and I have severe hot flashes. I already have issues with my bones, have sciatica on my left side (back issues) I just got a 2nd injection in my right knee because of small meniscus tear and arthritis in my patilla. I really don't feel comfortable with taking this medication and then for 5 years. I had a valve replacement 2014 so a lot of things I cannot do. I also didn't do radiation because it would cause more problems then heal. did anyone else stop taking hormone replacement therapy for any reason? if so, what did you do in replacement?please answer
Tamoxifen blocks the estrogen that is produced. The aromatase inhibitors, Arimidex, Femmara etc inhibit the production of estrogen. This is why Tamoxifen is usually prescribed to pre menopausal women. In my case I could not tolerate the Arimidex so she put me on Tamoxifen. Some people have no side effects, or mild side effects that are tolerable from the aromatase (estrogen inhibitors) drugs. This is what I understand.
Arimidex was terrible for me. I developed carpal tunnel in both hands, and terrible pain up my right arm. I was starting to have pain in an old ankle injury. All of it got so bad that my oncologist took me off of the Arimidex and started me on Tamoxifen after six weeks, even though I was post menopausal. Thank goodness I have an oncologist that wasn't hard and fast on the Arimidex or its sister drugs!
I @A MyBCTeam Member - I was on it about a month or so. The lesser side effect was itchy arms and the worst was horrible hip and joint pain. Mine got worse as I took it. The worst pain was laying down trying to sleep. It got so bad it was hard to walk. At first pain meds helped but didn't last long. I told my doctor and he switched me to exemestane and I'm doing a lot better. Still have the itchiness on my arms but very little hip or joint pain at this point. Been on it about 3 weeks now and hoping for the best. A lot of women have a problem with anastrozole so just ask your doctor to try something else. <3
