I have 3 chemo treatments left and oncologist had said radiation would follow chemo - is there a resting period after chemo before starting radiation? I seriously need a beach vacation and it's hard to plan one for this summer if I don't know what my treatment schedule is going to be. My next appt with the oncologist isn't until the 27th of this month. Any insight from others would certainly help - I know the best answer will come on the 27th but knowing what others experienced will help… read more
I had 6 weeks in between last chemo and beginning radiation; just worked out that way. Looking back, I would have had time for a beach vacation! Almost 7 weeks of radiation, for me; as others have said, use aloe, creams, lotions. One thing I would have done differently is to regularly do the exercises and stretches I did after my mastectomy.
So far I've finished 8 of 33 treatments. The only pain is having to go everyday. My Dr told me don't chase the symptoms of possible skin irritations, so I've been applying my Aquaphor and Aloe after treatments. Damn cancer took the past 8 months from me, I plan on making up for lost time when this is all done. Good Luck!
Just speak up and request the break. Ask at your next chemo or call your DR. I know people who have had one and others who have not. I am choosing not to have more than a week, and was proactive to discuss my choices. Enjoy the beach for me, and remember a big had and LOTS of sunscreen. Your chemo makes you a target for sunburn!
I too had 4 weeks.
My oncologist said during my chemo treatments that some people have taken up to 7 weeks off for vacations. I don't know about missing ANY radiation treatments. Others have said it's an everyday schedule for radiation. Ask your dr in advance. Sorry I can't give you more, but I'm one chemo away from being done with this phase, now looking at surgery.
