I finished 13 weeks of taxel 2 weeks ago and have severe legs pain. My feet and hands feel like they are on fire. (Neuropathy) My oncologist made me feel like I was crazy when I told him. He did give me a prescription for Vicodin that offers me no relief. My legs burn so bad walking up stairs, getting out of bed in the morning is a nightmare. I know from research that I'm not carY but wanted to know what others are doing if anything to ease the pain. Thank you.
IT is the neuropathy. gabepentin not sure if spelled right really worked well for me. I used it just for a few months , did some ultrasound on my fingers which helped.Just ask the oncologist about it. Thats what diabetics use.
@A MyBCTeam Member I finished chemo on March 6. By March 9, I had severe neuropathy in hands, feel and legs. Called oncologist and they put me on Gabopentin. It has done nothing to help me! I'm dealing with it better in the feet and hands than the legs. The pain in my legs is too severe to stand for long periods of time. I'm calling tomorrow (after radiation) to see what they want me to do. My GP gave me samples of Lyrica but I don't want to take that until consulting with oncologist.
I had 8 rounds of chemo, with my last four being docetaxol. I finished the last docetaxol on February 10th. The docetaxol was cumulative for me and my side effects grew worse and lasted longer with each dose. I had SEVERE leg pain for about 6 weeks after docetaxol. I would walk about five feet and my legs (primarily my thighs) would burn like I had just finished a marathon. My MO told me to be patient and it would gradually go away...it did...during those six weeks, I was only able to do the bare minimum of anything (getting dressed was exhausting, doing laundry was exhausting, I barely left my desk at work because it hurt so bad to walk, etc). I am now fine and I thank God every day that these legs are working again!!! Try Alieve to help with the pain. It will get better!!!!!
I cannot believe how helpful this is, to hear how everyone is experiencing the same things that I am. As sad as it is to know that anyone else maybe going to the same things it's still nice to know I'm not the only one. I just completed six rounds of chemo. It's been four weeks now unfortunately not only are my fingers and toes numb and, oh my does my body ache talk about walking up the steps and feeling pain in your thighs and your arms it's craziness. Thank you so much for your comments Good luck to you ladies and God bless
I had severe neuromuscular pain from taxol and my oncologist gave me steroids to take for 3 days after the infusion. It took away the severity of the pain and made it tolerable. After I completed treatment, I had some residual pain in my legs and lower joints. He then advised me to take B6, B12 and 10,000 GM of glutamine. I believe it has helped but I'm still left with a little neuropathy in my fingertips and lots in my feet and last Taxol was January 29th.
