I was wondering when is a post-mammogram usually performed? Doesn't the breast tissue change after a tumor removal from the breast? Wouldn't that show abnormal tissue from the scar? Would the tissue still look abnormal after six months to a year or would they go away?
I had my first mammography 3 months after radiation ended (which was a year after my abnormal mammogram). There is a little titanium marker left behind to show the surgical bed, and the technician I had was very gentle and compassionate. I am trusting that they can tell the difference between scar tissue and new tumors. It wasn't as bad as I imagined it was going to be!
I just had my first mammogram since completing radiation in December. They marked my scar and the radiologist told me everything looked great. I guess it comes down to trust. I feel a hard part under my scar, but they tell me it's scar tissue from my surgery. All in all I'm glad the first one is over and hope that subsequent mammograms are just as easy and successful.
Mary Fraz I have my first mammogram after radiation treatments in July along with an ultra sound. I too have a small hard area near the surgical site,Surgeon told me it could be fluid that would go away in. I understand for us to feel like everything is normal, will be about a year. Praying for you and stay positive its the key.
My mammogram is scheduled 6 months after last radiation treatment.
@A MyBCTeam Member Hyde Craft I know what you mean. Positive thinking is not only good for the mind but it's also good for your physical well being. Doctor told me it's probably scar tissue. Will have another in 6 months. In the mean time I'm living life and staying positive for all to be well.
