boy, I'm hoping for that. Originally (I'm triple negative IIb or IIIa) they said chemo, mastectomy, radiation, wait, wait wait and reconstruction. My "fungus" shrunk from 7.5cm to 1.5 cm according to ultrasound two weeks ago. Tomorrow I have a Breast MRI and I'm praying hard that the shrinkage has increased!

Yes, I had the same. Finished at the end of February. I'm doing great. Lumpectomy and radiation have the same overall survival as mastectomy and no radiation. I don't think the worry will ever completely go away. But part of healing is learning to move past worry and fear and to go forward with living your life. If you like to read there are many good books on the subject of breast cancer and healing. Your hospital most likely has a resource room with recommended readings too. Whatever decision you make try reach out to as many resources as you can during treatment phases to help manage anxious thoughts and feelings you are experiencing. Best wishes to you!

pattyann, the statistics are the same with lumpectomy and radiation as with mastectomy and no radiation. In older women its slightly better.

My aunt had a lumpectomy just over 5 years ago and she feels fine. Just finished 5 years on an AI.
