I only had cancer in left breast and choose bilateral mastectomy. I am young and wanted to be proactive .....I have NEVER regretted my decision!

I was diagnosed with breast cancer in my left breast. After a lumpectomy without clear margins I elected to have a prophylactic bilateral mastectomy with immediate reconstruction. I do not regret my decision!

I had cancer in my left breast only but also had both removed. With my mother and sister both having had cancer, I wanted to eliminate that chance of recurrence if possible. Since my Oct. 31 surgery, I've had a friend who has just gone through her second MX and chemo in 2 yrs. I'm not sure I would have done nearly as well as she has done.

Thank you ladies! It seems most of you did not want to worry about developing cancer later on in the healthy breast. What was your thought process coming to that decision?

Same here. Cancer in the right breast but the left agreed to leave with it's sister....
