How often did you have hot flashes on tamoxifen? I am having one every 45 minutes to an hour and it is 20 degrees I'm Chicago. Also do the hot flashes last the entire time on the drug or do they ease up or go away?
I take Effexor to help with the hot flashes. I still get them not as often. At first my scents could be 5 feet away and I would ave one. The worst time for me is blow drying my hair in the morning, entire chest is covered in sweat, like I just came back from a work out!!
@A MyBCTeam Member and @A MyBCTeam Member, it is coincidental that I just read this chain. I have been drinking a lot of lemon water since diagnosis, including blending the lemon peel into a water every day, as well as a shake. I recently came upon the study done on nice with tamoxifen and tangeretin, and had a few days of real panic, thinking I had negated the positive effect of tamoxifen (I've been on it since September 16). She first told me that for every one drug tested and found to be effective in humans, there are 20-50 that have an effect in mice, which is not replicable in humans. She also went on to say that lemons have the lowest amount of tangeretin in the fruits in which it is found, and that the mice were over dosed, not given an amount that we would consume in food/a couple lemons. That being said, she said to stop eating the peels, but the juice is still fine and in fact beneficial. I learned a lot more, but too much to type on my phone. Feel free to message me, I'd love to share. I'd also love to hear what you guys have learned.
I too am in chicago...(love the -10 weather, huh?)some of the hot flashed ease up. I only get them every couple hours now, worse about an hour after my dose of tamoxifen. I found if I take it in the evening, I suffer less the next day.
Hi there @A MyBCTeam Member Tamoxifen is not my fave either but I will say SOME of the side effects have evened out a bit. My join pain (in hands and shins) has lifted. I still get the hot flashes but they really come and go (I can go a week without one). There are other side effects that drive me crazy but basically (according to my oncologist) that means things are working.

I've only been taking tamoxifen for two months and so far the timing for the hot flashes is about the same for me. It is especially bad at night, or maybe I notice it more then because the hot/freezing/hot/freezing/ cycles wake me up all night long so I'm chronically sleep-deprived. Hopefully this side effect will ease up.
